Medicinal and Environmental Indicator Species of Utricularia from Montane Forest of Peninsular Malaysia
The carnivorous Utricularia (Lentibulariaceae) is a small herb of multifarious wet habitats worldwide. Eleven of the 14 Peninsular Malaysian species range into the mountains. Distribution, disturbance adaptability and collection frequency were used to formulate their commonness category. Common (U. aurea, U. bifida, and U. minutissima) and fairly common (U. gibba and U. uliginosa) species are m...
متن کاملDetection of Naegleria Species in Environmental Samples from Peninsular Malaysia
BACKGROUND In Malaysia, researchers and medical practitioners are unfamiliar with Naegleria infections. Thus little is known about the existence of pathogenic Naegleria fowleri, and the resultant primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM) is seldom included in the differential diagnosis of central nervous system infections. This study was conducted to detect the presence of Naegleria species in ...
متن کاملA new species of Kerivoula (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) from peninsular Malaysia
Until recently, bats of the genus Kerivoula in Southeast Asia were relatively poorly known, with most species recorded from relatively few specimens (Corbet and Hill, 1992). However, recent use of harp traps (Francis, 1989) has shown that many species of Kerivoula are, in fact, relatively common in the forest understorey in Southeast Asia (Francis, 1990; Francis et al., 1999; Kingston et al., 1...
متن کاملNew Records of Butterfly Species for Pulau Tioman, Peninsular Malaysia
This paper presents a preliminary checklist of butterfly species (Class Insecta: Order Lepidoptera) recorded from the island of Pulau Tioman (Malaysia) from 25 to 28 June 1996, and from 24 to 27 June 1997. Our survey yielded 78 species belonging to 57 genera and 5 families. Of these species, 25 are possibly new records for the island.
متن کاملAsplenium merapohense (Aspleniaceae), a new species from the Peninsular Malaysia
A new species of Asplenium is described from two collections made on limestone hills in Peninsular Malaysia. Conspicuous by its extremely narrow pinnae, it is probably allied to A. salignum but differs in sufficient characters (scale size, size and shape of lamina, venation and sorus length, position and orientation) to be a species in its own right.
